Andre Minari, Postdoc, Unifesp

André Luis Araujo Minari is a researcher and educator in the field of exercise physiology, with a focus on inflammation and muscle tissue communication. With a background in postdoctoral research at the Federal University of São Paulo, André has dedicated his career to understanding the role of different macrophage subsets in skeletal muscle adaptation
following exercise. He is currently under the supervision of Dr. Steinberg at SickKids Hospital, studying the involvement of various cell death mechanisms in macrophages and fibroblast differentiation. Passionate about advancing our understanding of immune responses and tissue repair, his work has been recognized by the Jacobo and Estela Klip Fund in 2025.

Brayan Arango, PhD student, Laboratorio de Biología Celular y Molecular de Rosario (IBR)

Brayan Arango, a biologist from Colombia, developed a strong interest in microbiology during his undergraduate studies in Biology. After completing his degree, he was awarded a scholarship to pursue a PhD in Argentina. He is currently in his fourth year of doctoral studies at the Institute of Cellular and Molecular Biology in Rosario. His research focuses on understanding the pathogenesis of Serratia marcescens, an opportunistic human pathogen and an emerging public health concern. Serratia marcescens possesses a range of virulence factors that allow it to invade and survive intracellularly. Through his doctoral thesis, Brayan aims to uncover the mechanisms by which this bacterium performs these processes. His research seeks to contribute to the development of more effective treatments, helping to combat this growing health threat.

Filipa Martins, PhD student, iNOVA4Health (IPOLFG, NMS)

Filipa Martins is a PhD student in Health Sciences at NOVA Medical School, Lisbon, Portugal. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and a master’s in Molecular Biology and Genetics. Her PhD project focuses on cancer metabolism and how to take advantage of glutamine metabolism to develop new therapies for glioblastoma. Securing this travel grant will significantly contribute to her research progress and personal development.
